Prediabetes (Pre-Diabetic Conditions)
Elevated Fasting Blood Glucose (IFG): Fasting blood glucose levels above 6.1 mmol/L but below 7 mmol/L. In such cases, an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is recommended. For this condition, the 2-hour glucose value remains below 7.8 mmol/L.
High blood sugar levels can damage the cardiovascular system even if diabetes has not yet developed, and only prediabetes is present. Therefore, it is strongly advised to check blood sugar levels at least once a year to detect any carbohydrate metabolism disorders as early as possible.
The first step is to undergo laboratory testing.
Laboratory testing is available without waiting at our clinic in Szeged and its surrounding areas on weekdays, between 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM, after scheduling an appointment in advance. A glucose tolerance test, part of the examination, is conducted by a diabetes nurse or diabetes educator.
From a medical perspective, fasting blood tests during this time are the most informative, as data relevant to risk factors can vary due to daily fluctuations, which might lead to misleading results.
Based on the laboratory results, consultations with our diabetologists and, if necessary, our dietitian are available.
